Paula's Modest Genealogy Homepage
I started researching my
family lines in January of 1995 and have made some fascinating
discoveries about my heritage. Since there were two adoptions in
my immediate family, I had much less to start with than the
average genealogist, and much more incentive to continue than the
average genealogist. Things that most people take for granted -
medical history and ethnic background, for instance - were
mysteries to me. The starting point for anyone attempting to
construct a genealogy is to write down everything already known,
and work from there. In my research, the known consisted of four
names - which took approximately two minutes to write down - and
the rest was an uphill struggle. But I can see clearly now who I
am and how I came to be.
The most incredible discovery that I made,
though, was that everyone engaged in this pasttime is more than
willing to share information, whether actual files or methods for
successful research. So, to all who have contributed to my files
and my education - thank you!
As a firm believer in the
philosophy of "kiss" (keep it simple, stupid) this will
be a very low-key homepage. But if any of my surnames look
familiar to you, please contact me! My name is
Paula
Naujalis and I am always
delighted to meet new cousins.
And explore the links I have included; each
and every one of them can provide valuable information for the
amateur genealogist .

Resources for some of the surnames listed above:
Note: There are mailing lists for many of my surnames, but I have listed only those for which I am listowner. For a complete directory of surname and other mailing lists, check out Genealogy Resources on the Internet and/or the Rootsweb Genealogical Data Cooperative.
Allison:
One of the most knowledgeable people (in my humble opinion, of
course) about Southern Allison families, and the person who
taught me the most about genealogy, is Judith
Allison Walters. She is
my silent partner for the Allison Mailing List. To subscribe,
just click on the Rootsweb logo to the upper left, and type
"subscribe" (without the quotes) in the body of the
message. And be sure to check out Judith
Allison Walters' Homepage with
Allisons and other surnames - plus photographs from her catalog
and books she has written about her families.
Bailey: The "Southern Bailey's with Branches Upwards and Outwards" is produced by Donna Beers and offers those researchers working on the Bailey (and all variations thereof) surname a place to post queries. Cost is $15.00 per year. Donna also has a homepage, Home of the Bailey Database and Bailey Periodicals.
Constant: Judith Allison Walters (Allison researcher extraordinaire) is also a photographer who specializes in collecting and copying old photos. She currently has a stock of Constant family photos and is offering reprints for sale at a very reasonable price! For a list of available Constant family subjects, just click here.
Coy: There
is now a Coy Mailing List. Just click on the Rootsweb logo and
type "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the body of
the message. Not a very busy list, but possibly helpful with your
Coy mystery.
Crawford:
I am also the listowner of the Crawford Mailing List. To
subscribe, just click on the Rootsweb logo to the upper left, and
type "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the body of
the message. A moderately active list, it may just help you
find your missing Crawford links.
Davis: The "Diggin' for Davises" newsletter is produced by Dick Dietz and costs $10.00 per year; this includes free searches of the computer database of over 10,000 of the earliest Davis residents of America.
Graves: There is a Graves Family Association which offers books, a newsletter and information on the various Graves lines all over the world. Dues are $20.00 per year. For further information, you can contact Kenneth Graves.
Higginbotham: There is a Higginbotham Family Association that produces a newsletter and has much information on this family name. If you have an elusive Higginbotham in your family tree, just write to: The Lost Higginbothams, PO Box 61, Imperial, MO 63052.
Hull: The Hull Family Association has a website which gives much information about the purpose, publications and officers of the association, along with general information as well. Dues are $20.00 per year for new USA members, and $15.00 for renewal; $25.00 for international members and $20.00 for renewal. The snail mail address for the Hull Family Association is 393002 Gap Road, Bartlesville, OK 74003.
Knapp: A major source of information about Knapp families who are descended from immigrant Nicholas Knapp is the Knapp Family Historian, Fred Knapp. He has provided almost all my Knapp information and may be able to help with yours.
Lossing:
Join the Lossing mailing list! Just click on the logo and type
the single word "subscribe" (without the quotes) in the
body of the message. The Lossings were a family from the
Netherlands who first settled in New York and then some of them
found their way through Canada into Michigan. A good person to
ask about the Lossing family is Paul Broberg.
McDonald: There are many names associated with the McDonald Clan including McDonald (of course!) but also Allison and McG(h)ee. With those, or similar names, in your family tree, you might want to check out Clan Donald.
Morgan: Excellent resources for the Morgan families of Hampshire Co., VA and Sangamon County, IL are the books of Ann Tuohy and Gerald Collins. Contact me for information on how to get in touch with either of them.
Wilson: Try the Wilson_Network to find that elusive Wilson ancestor. There you can list your Wilsons, contact other Wilson researchers and find links that will assist you in your search. The site is maintained by Ava Wilson Whitis.
Worden: Pat Worden publishes a Worden's Past newsletter, and has an extensive Worden database. If you have a Worden/Warden/Werden in your family tree, this is the person to ask about him/her. Note: the above link only works for other America Online users; if you have a different internet service provider, use this link.
Worth: I have just taken over the Worth mailing list! Don't worry, it was not a hostile takeover. Join us if you have a Worth-y family.

The Genealogy Gateway has about a gazillion links to genealogy and history related sites (okay, I exaggerate a bit.). And even more links are being added almost continually which makes this a site well worth bookmarking and checking often. Logo courtesy of Genealogy Gateway. |

John Fuller and Chris Gaunt are coauthors of perhaps the most comprehensive compilation of genealogy related resources on the internet. This includes sites for mailing lists, FTP, newsgroups, Telnet, Gopher, WWW and e-mail. Logo courtesy of John Fuller and Chris Gaunt. |

Check out this group of wild and wooly researchers who feel that if you can't get rid of the skeletons, make 'em dance! A homepage and mailing list for the "International Black Sheep Society of Genealogists (IBSSG) which includes all those who have a dastardly, infamous individual of public knowledge and ill-repute in their family...within 1 degree of consanguinity of their direct lines. This individual must have been pilloried in disgrace for acts of a significantly anti-social nature." I'm honored to be a Charter Member. |

Have a hard to trace southern family? Maybe they were Melungeons. And who were the mysterious Melungeons who were already homesteading in the United States when the white European settlers arrived? A new theory has been presented, and has some compelling evidence to support it. Their history raises some doubts about the concept of "liberty and justice for all." |

The Rootsweb Genealogical Data Cooperative has two main goals; to make genealogical data available over the internet and to provide support services for the internet genealogist. Rootsweb is home to many surname and other mailing lists. And many of those are refugees from the Maiser disaster. Thank you, Rootsweb! All Rootsweb logos courtesy of Marc Nozell. |

The USGenWeb Project is an ambitious effort to have a site for every county in every state in the US. The pages are created and maintained by volunteers and contain inquiries, resources, surname lists and a lot more. Pages are being updated constantly so stop back often. Logo courtesy of USGenWeb. |

I hope you have enjoyed your visit. It was probably like
traveling economy (or maybe wagon train), rather than first class
- a "no-frills" trip. But the links listed here contain
almost all a person would need to get started with his or her
family history. And there is no greater fun - try it! You'll like
it! Would I lie to you?
